Memorabilia mini album

I made this one a few months ago and never shared it! GASP! So here's some shots of a free-standing mini album that I made with Teresa Collins' Memorabilia line and some Heidi Swapp pennants that I picked up Archiver's last day of business. 

Those of you who've witnessed one of my mini albums are prepared for the photo onslaught coming your way. 

Page 2, or maybe page 1. The book is at my LSS until we have the class and since it's been a while since I made it the pages here are in something close to the right order. 

I may have over done it with the flaps in this book!

This page is sooo lame by comparison. Just kidding, look at all that dimension. Are you noticing how many things poke out on the sides?

This "page" needs three shots to do it justice because of the flaps:

Now to get it back and fill it with fun photos and memorabilia.

Scoring backgrounds - How To'sday post at Scrapbooksteals

For today's "How To'sday" on ScrapbookSteals.com I have a simple technique for adding texture without much mess or adding a lot of thickness to the page. Go grab a tool for scoring (I used the AC Cut It Up), a piece of paper, some sand paper (I used a WRMK Heart Attack) and come back. 

Using your scoring tool, draw a series of vertical and horizontal lines on what will be the back of your paper. I really like making a large symmetrical grid and then go back and add some randomly close score marks to create interest. 

Now flip the paper "right side up" and rub the lines with your sand paper. I darkened the next several photos to help you see the effect created on the paper. The one above was darkened also, it shows what the paper looks like before I was done distressing all the score marks - there's some texture but it isn't very visible. 

  

All done with the sanding!

This one I took really dark so you could see all the places I'd distressed and torn up in the process. 

Then, to heighten that texture I rubbed the page with a Distress Ink pad in Vintage Linen and set to work on my layout. I didn't worry about smudging or over inking, knowing that it would lend itself to creating a more interesting background. 

And below I have a close up of a portion of the layout, you know, just for fun.

Thank you card

Thank you's are in order - it is November after all! This is the second thank you challenge I'm participating in. This time it is for the Paper Girls Challenge Blog. I must already have Christmas on the brain because here's a Christmas themed thank you. Guess there'll be plenty to be thankful for in a month, it'll just chill in my stash until the colors are a bit more appropriate.

Lots of Authentique paper love here. And I got the inspiration for the line of brads from something a friend posted on Scrapbooksteals.com's FB page - thanks Sheryl Kloke!!! And the faux pleating was another Scrapbooksteals MWM lift, Judy Koets had them on her last page and I loved it.

MCM 108

These cards are nearly identical, but I like their differences. Such different statements. 

I made them based on the Scrapbooksteals.com MCM #108. 

The paper is Fancy Pants Designs. I used my WRMKSew Easy to help line up the banners for stitching. The stamp is from Teresa Collins. The brads were from a goodie bag at a crop I went to recently. 

Dads' Birthdays

Our dad's birthdays are about 2 weeks apart so when I make cards for mine I have typically made my father-in-law's at the same time. 

Neither card is fabulous, but the one for my dad is funny to me. The boys call him Papa. I was rearranging some scrap stash and found these old rub-ons (K and Company, I think) and they matched some American Crafts Campy Trails that was hanging out on the desk so I set to work to put the two together for a card for Pawpawpawpawpaw. Bwahahaha. He would hate if I pronounced it that way, but it was a fun play on words and a simple card to make.

For my FIL, I gave a "wilderness" badge. They went on vacation with us, well for part of our trip. Before joining us in Seattle they visited the Sequioas, Yosemite, went with us to Mount St. Helens, on a whale watching trip, a jet boat trip through Hell's Canyon, ID, and were talking about driving up to Yellowstone when we left. A lot of wilderness watching, right?
