Birthday time!

This week Soul Sentiments is celebrating it's second birthday! I'm pretty excited to have been involved with Dala's design team for over a year now. To help celebrate we decided to offer a birthday-themed card making class like we did for Christmas in July - all the supplies are pre-cut and ready for inking and assembly.

Naturally, we dug into some supplies that have been around the store for a while. This card features papers from MME Collectable and OA 9-5. The stamp is from Hero Arts and I tossed in some twine to finish it off.

This card has more of that great MME/OA combination from the store and I supplied the Jillibean Sprout (the white journal card), the BG journaling label, MME banners, AC brads, and a couple of packs of Glitz Designs alphas that would coordinate. 

Behind that luscious Webster's Pages vellum is a piece of 6x6 MME Miss Caroline woodgrain. The sentiment was one I'd made for myself while trying out the Silhouette stamp material, I don't remember the shape's name but the stamp cut pretty clean! And I have no idea where the sequins came from but I've used them a few times now on class projects. 

Here's more of that MME Miss Caroline - these pieces were part of a "6x6 page kit" type sample that I picked up when in SLC last fall. I just inked the die cuts up and cut the page down to a card size and added a tiny sentiment and some cheapy sticker gems. Easy peasy. The stamp is from the same Hero Arts collection.

And last but certainly not least! I made my own swing card file in the Silhouette Studio software. David had to help with that a lot, in the end we decided to make a partial swing card because I liked the size of the cupcake. Anyway, there's more MME and Webster's Pages goodness here plus some Viva Glitter Pen, a little modeling paste, AC Wow! glitter, and that stamp is an older Glitz sentiment. 

Old Photo Challenge

It's time for another Paper Girl's Challenge! This one could be a lot of fun for everyone - Kristy is challenging everyone to use old photos and is keeping the definition of "old" pretty flexible.

For my project I chose an "old" photo of Vance, and by old it's probably from around the time I had Rylan so only a few years but still old for me. I found it on my computer a few months ago - it had been David's computer and when my hard drive failed I acquired the "good" computer and he got a new computer and in the process I also got a bunch of new scrapbooking material.

The layout was sort of a trial run for some new goodies that I'd picked up and an attempt to duplicate some sequin shakers that Leslie made. I started by scraping some Viva Decor modeling cream over a Studio Calico stencil.

Then I used a Heidi Swapp stencil and applied Viva Decor 3D stamp paint over it (the "bliss" portion on the pink tag), the "love" and the large background on the yellow tag were both stamped with the same paint and once dry I misted over them and wiped the mists off the paint. 

The layout itself was sort of grown from there because I'd just been experimenting on the back of a package but like it so much that I smeared the excess ink around (and added more to cover the whole thing). The edges were "inked" with silver Inka Gold. 

 I especially love that while I used all sorts of new messy goodies I was also able to finish up a package of Pink Paislee Artisan mistable pieces that I touched with a bit of blue ink.

The wooden veneer circles are from Studio Calico and I just painted them with black acrylic and then mounted a shaker underneath.

Authentique Splendid cards

Here's another batch of cards done using homemade paper as the base. All the embellishments are from Authentique's Splendid - I have tons of the little pop out embellies so even the large parts are just the pop out sheets turned upside down. Haha. 

There's more from where those embellishments came from and I'm really pushing to use some of my stash again so look forward to seeing another batch. I am most of the way through my most recent batch of homemade paper though so I'll either have to make more (using those scraps that are to small to use) or just use more paper. 

Red Lantern

I hope everyone had a fantastic Independence Day, we spent the day playing around the house and after a brief stint at work I made it home in time to watch fireworks with the guys. All around a good day while enjoying some of our freedoms. 

I then spent the rest of the weekend putting this fun red lantern together for the Paper Girls Challenge Blog's newest challenge - Red, White, and Blue. We want to see what you can do with that theme, while I used traditionally patriotic colors I spun off and made a little bit of home decor.

I used Graphic 45 Fashionista papers, a wooden dowel, some popsicle sticks, Christmas wired ribbon (wires removed), Viva Decor Inka Gold and glitter pens, E6000, hot glue, gel medium and washi. 

Do you like that I included washi in my list? It's been my go to for temporary placement while designing projects. I don't know what I'd do without the stuff. 

The lantern itself was a $5 buy at Tuesday Morning, the glass pieces were missing but I knew immediately the general direction this piece was going to take. 

I used my Cameo to cut out all those flowers and leaves and a petal curler to give them some shape. The brad centers were from my stash.

Counting Down to Christmas

As part of my ongoing efforts to create fun classes for the Christmas in July event at my local store I've made this little countdown wall hanging using BasicGrey's 25th and Pine. 

The base of the panels was made using upcycled chipboard. 

In addition to the papers I used some of the die cut and vellum pieces from the line. 

Everything was inked with gold Colorbox pigment ink.

And I used a variety of Studio G Christmas colored glitter glues - because Christmas decorations can always use more glitter. ;)

And then with a little help from some chalkboard paper the piece was complete. The countdown is on... 

watercolor cards

One day before summer school started the boys were going at it so I broke them up by setting some Faber-Castell gel sticks (the kid version of gelatos) and water color paper in front of them. While they drew random Wall-e's and circles I painted some card backgrounds and later mounted them on some homemade paper I've been working on between projects.

Nothing really crazy about these cards, just lots of experimenting with my gelatos and a little bit of salt (guess it wasn't coarse enough because I didn't get the reaction I'd gotten with other salts).

Both sentiments are from Tim Holtz though I couldn't tell you which sets! 

These next three are probably my favorite, though I can't figure out why the photos make them look all sorts of crazy warped. The cards are totally normal shapes!

Another batch of cards

These cards feature a random assortment of scraps as the base of the cards but all the stickers are from Authentique Original, there's a bit of Curiousity in there as well. I seriously love the colors in those two lines and they work so well together even if I did get weird coloring while photographing them. 

The next card uses bit of Authentique Loyal papers that I had around, they do an amazing job of having complementary lines. 

Last one! The grey in the background is Teresa Collins On the Edge plus more scraps from the others. The sentiment is a Hero Arts Stamp.
